Integrated functionality
The SIRIUS 3RA6 compact starters are a generation of special load feeders with the integrated functionality of circuit breaker, contactor and electronic overload relay. Furthermore, various functions of accessories that would otherwise be optionally attachable are already integrated in the SIRIUS compact starter (e.g. auxiliary switches, surge suppressors).

Area of application
The SIRIUS compact starters can be used wherever standard three-phase motors or resistive loads up to 32 A (approx. 15 kW/400 V) are to be started or switched directly.
The compact feeders are not suitable for protecting DC consumers.
Approvals have been granted for the compact starters according to IEC, UL, CSA and CCC standards.
Very high operational reliability
The high short-circuit switching capacity and defined shutdown at the end of the service life achieve a very high level of operational reliability that would otherwise only be possible with considerable additional effort. This sets the SIRIUS compact starter apart from devices with similar functionality.
Safe shutdown
The auxiliary switches (NC contacts) of the 3RA6 compact starters are designed as mirror contacts. This makes it possible to use the devices for safe shutdown – e.g. EMERGENCY STOP – up to SIL 1 (IEC 62061) or PL c (ISO 13849-1) or in conjunction with an additional feed contactor up to SIL 3 (IEC 62061) or PL e (ISO 13849-1).
Communication connection via AS-Interface
For communication connection via AS-Interface, an AS-i add-on module is offered in several variants, which can be attached to the SIRIUS compact starter instead of the control circuit terminals.
The design of the AS-i add-on module allows a group of up to 62 branches with a total of four cables to be connected to the controller, thus achieving significant wiring savings compared to parallel wiring.
Communication connection via IO‑Link
Up to four compact starters in IO‑Link design (reversing and direct starters) can be connected to each other and conveniently linked to the IO‑Link master via a standardized IO‑Link connection.
The IO-Link connection ensures a high information density in the near field.

The process diagnostic data determined by the 3RA6 compact starter, such as short circuit, end of service life, end position, etc., are transmitted to the higher-level controller via IO‑Link – in addition to the display on the compact starter itself.
Thanks to the optionally available operator panel, which can be installed in the control cabinet door, the 3RA6 compact starter with IO‑Link can be conveniently controlled from the control cabinet door.
Permanent wiring/easy replacement
Using the SIRIUS feed-in system for 3RA6, the wiring can be carried out in advance without having to plug in a compact starter.
Replacing a compact starter can be done very easily by simply removing the device without disconnecting the wiring.
Even with screw fastening or mounting on a DIN rail, no wiring needs to be disconnected when replacing a compact starter (due to the removable main and control circuit terminals).
Consistent solution from the feed-in to the motor output
Using the SIRIUS feed system for 3RA6 with integrated PE busbar, it is easy to feed total currents of up to 100 A with a maximum connection cross-section of 70 mm² and to connect the motor cable directly without any additional intermediate terminals.
Screw and spring-loaded connection technology
The SIRIUS compact starters and the infeed system for 3RA6 are available in screw and spring-loaded technology.

Types of infeed for fuseless compact starters 3RA6
In total, there are four different options for feeding in power:

- Use of 3-phase busbars (combination with SIRIUS circuit breakers and SIRIUS contactors possible)

SIRIUS compact starters 3RA6
The SIRIUS 3RA6 compact starters are universal motor feeders in accordance with IEC 60947‑6‑2. As a “CPS” (Control and Protective Switching Device), they can switch on, manage and switch off the thermal, dynamic and electrical loads caused by short-circuit currents up to I q = 53 kA, i.e. they are practically weld-free. They combine the functions of a circuit breaker, a contactor and an electronic overload relay in one housing. Direct-on-line starters with a width of 45 mm and reversing starters with a width of 90 mm are available as variants.
In addition to the internal electrical locking, the reversing starter design also has a mechanical locking mechanism to prevent simultaneous operation in both directions of rotation.
The compact feeders fulfill the isolating properties according to IEC 60947-2 and can be used as mains isolating devices (main switch according to DIN EN 60204 or VDE 0113). The isolating takes place by moving the handle to the “OFF” position; switching off via the control contacts is not sufficient.
3RA6 fuseless compact starters are available in five current setting ranges. The 3RA61 and 3RA62 have two control voltage ranges (AC/DC), the 3RA64 and 3RA65 have one control voltage range (DC):
